“Save the Chessie” is a project of the Cincinnati Scenic Railway with a goal of saving Ex-Chessie GP30 #6955 from the scrappers torch. This project will solely rely on donations and fundraising events. Very little time remains to help preserve this unique piece of Ohio History. What will the locomotive be used for???

Once the #6955 has been shipped back to Ohio and fully overhauled, it will be placed into excursion service. Special events will Ohio Rail Experience rides and shortline use on the Lebanon Mason & Monroe Railroad in Lebanon,OH.

How long will this all take?

It all depends on how much funding is raised. We’re currently hoping that we can begin test runs of the locomotive before the end of 2023.
